Frederic Schrieber

Frederic Walter “Wally” Schrieber, 88, of St. Louis, Missouri, joined all the saints in heaven on Monday, October 20th, 2025, after battling cancer for several years.

Wally was born in Hastings, Nebraska, the youngest child of Walter and Ella Schrieber, brother to Ruth (Paul) Pallmeyer, Betty (Paul) Pohland, and Edith (Richard) Burgdorf. He graduated from the Missouri School of Mines at Rolla where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959, a proud member of Beta Sigma Psi. He married Margaret (Freudenburg) in 1961, and together they raised Ben (Beth), Amy, and Jennifer (Scott Janssen).

Wally and Marge were blessed with 10 grandchildren, including – Kyle, Blaze, Dakota, Hunter, Matt, Elli, and Benjamin, (Ben); Brooklyn, Addie, and Ben (Jennifer); as well as several great-grandchildren.

A quiet leader known to take his employees at Industrial Process Equipment Company for a walk around the block as they solved high level problems, Wally fixed just about anything that was broken by taking it apart carefully, cleaning it, and putting it back together. He modeled that patient attention to detail in his relationships, as well, never flinching while his grandchildren learned to “measure twice and cut once,” change the oil, or install flooring. If he wasn’t working on a project, Wally was likely to be watching a grandchild’s ballgame, “scoring” a dive into their backyard pool, or officiating a whiffle ball battle. Wally was active: golfing, fishing, camping, and exploring the U.S. with friends and family.

As a faithful follower of Jesus who knew and believed the promises of his Savior, Wally would tear up as he prayed over a meal, thanking His Creator for the gift of salvation through Jesus. His quiet faith directed all he did.

If you were ever in an elevator with Wally, you probably heard him say “You might be wondering why I called this meeting…” We all look forward to our next meeting with Wally, a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend!

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Kirkwood, Missouri at 10:30 a.m., lunch to follow. Visitation will be at the same location Friday, Oct. 31 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

🤎 The Brown Family Loves Wally and The Schrieber Family. The magnanimous spirit of a gentle giant who incessantly & unselfishly gave lots of love & warmth & wisdom to all of his family & friends, (pets included 🙂 A beloved tacit teacher, scholar & gentleman who always illustrated Christ Consciousness in a helpful, cherry, light-hearted & good-natured kind of way. Wally will be remembered by generations because of the remarkable way he wholeheartedly shared his treasure trove of riches throughout his lifetime and made wholesome memories with family & friends in a genuinely loving way that will never be forgotten.

Uncle Wally and Aunt Marge were always the cool, young, hip uncle and aunt when we Pallmeyer children were kids. They always loved us and made us feel welcome. I especially remember Christmas Eve celebrations at their house. We will always cherish the memories. Our thoughts are with you, Aunt Marge, as well as with Jen and Amy during this difficult time.

Wally was a great boss and even better friend. We had some fun times together working or more like playing in the garage with our manhattans in hand. We’re all going to miss him but he’s in a much better place. Rest well my friend.

Wally was a good friend for many years. He could do and would do just about any thing for his friends. A special memory is a trip we made to the boundry waters in Canada, where I still might be without his sense of direction. He will be missed, but will be remembered with a great sense of gratitude for years of friendship. Rest in peace, friend. Don Thuss

Sincerely sorry to hear this news. We only knew Wally for the last couple decades of his life – but he was a truly kind and generous man and neighbor. The first to welcome us to the street and help make us feel at home. He was always willing to offer anyone help with anything. I’d regularly see him cutting many of the neighbors’ yards (older and younger than he) and he got my old broken down mower back up and running multiple times. He once noticed me struggling to put together a basketball hoop for my daughter – his wisdom told him this wasn’t a one man job and he came down without hesitation to help me knock it out. And some of my favorite memories are how he often enjoyed coming down to say hi to our boxer, Clark. We always considered Wally the de facto Mayor of the street. Just a sweet and gracious man.

Wally was one of Beta Sigma Psi Eta Chapter in Rolla most favorite dedicated alumni. Always had a Christlike disposition. Great sense of humor. Certainly will be missed by all.

Greetings to the Schrieber family, especially Marge, I wish you well!
There were three of us left from the 1954 pledge class at Beta Sig. Now we are down to two. (Sigh!) Everything that has been written of him is true; Wally was that kind of thoughtful person. Probably “loving” would be the best description. There is lots more I could share, but probably not enough room here. He was a dear Christian friend and brother in Christ Jesus, for sure. I think you’ll like these words from the Psalms: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of one of His Godly ones.” (116:15) May the Lord keep you in His care!
