George Gregory Chase

George Gregory Chase, “Greg”, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s house in St. Charles, Missouri on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the age of 80. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 7, 1944 predeceased by his parents: George Gregory Chase and Marie (Maloney) Chase, his Son, Douglas G. Chase and his Granddaughter, Skylar N. Lavender.  He is lovingly remembered by his Daughters; Jennifer Martens (Daniel) and Katherine Schwartzmeyer Johnson (Steven), Grandchildren; Gaylynn Jones (Jeremy Lampe), Douglas Jones, Riley Jones (Hayli), Charli Johnson and Great grandchildren; Camden & Brayden Lampe, and Remi Jones, Sisters; Sandy Thomas and Alicia Chase,  Brother, Gary Chase ( Rebecca), Nieces, Nephews, and Many Friends.

As a child, Greg grew up in Normandy where he attended Ascension Grade School. He graduated High School from Christian Brothers College in 1962. He graduated college from Northeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree, Administration of Justice in 1977.

Greg served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 serving a tour both in Panama and Vietnam with The 504th Military Police Battalion.

He served and retired from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department as a City Police Officer from 1966-1987. He started out as a Patrol Officer in the 9th Police District, Midtown St. Louis. He then transferred to the Bureau of Investigation in 1970 and served as a detective until 1981 with assignments in the Vice/Liquor and Mortality Division along with Burglary/Robbery Division.  In 1981, he requested and was granted a transfer to the newly formed “Foot Beat Patrol” Unit in the Laclede’s Landing entertainment area of St. Louis Riverfront. After retiring from the Police Force he joined the Missouri Division of Liquor Control as a Special Agent for 20 years and retired in 2009.

He lived a full life, had many dear, loving friends, ate good food, drank great wine and enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing in his younger years. I think he knew every movie made in the history of making movies. He was obsessed with Dexter. He watched every Dexter episode at least twice maybe three times. He was a great cook and could make microwave popcorn taste amazing. He had a sense of style and was a very talented carpenter in his younger years. He faithfully and consistently exercised about 3 hours a day for the last 50 years. He flossed daily (several times a day)!!! He took amazing care of everything he owned. His house and car were spotless. He would clean his house before the cleaning lady came and still complained that she didn’t meet his expectations. He was upfront, direct, straight-forward and did not beat around the bush. He would let you know if your breath smelled or if you had body odor!  His secret was using Rubbing Alcohol daily in the shower on your armpits! Now you know!! You hardly ever saw him without a suntan. He looked out for his friends, was generous and had amazing dinner parties.  If you crossed him or betrayed his trust, that was that!  His proudest achievement was his children and his most difficult time was the loss of his son, Douglas in 1989.

He spent the last four years in Florida where he talked about going to for the last 40 years and he finally did it. Unfortunately, he started to feel unwell in 2025. First with an annoying cough then followed by fatigue and then shortness of breath. It was hard and frustrating for him those last several months not physically being able to do the things he wanted to do……BUT he did an excellent job telling you how to do it!! LOL, and being fixated on it until it was done!! It all got DONE. He is at PEACE and back to doing all the things he enjoyed doing. He is in Heaven, Eternal Life with Jesus Christ Our Lord and surrounded by Family and Friends that have gone before him.

Rest in Peace, Dad!
