Harold “Gene” Cox

St. Louis – Harold “Gene” Cox, born September 30, 1928, died Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. God took Gene home Resurrection Sunday to be with his savior, Jesus. He passed peacefully at the age of 90 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s under the loving care of his family and the Missouri Veteran’s home.

Gene grew up in St. Louis, MO, the only son of Floyd and Mary Adelaide Cox. He was a WWII US Navy veteran. He served with honor, that many could have peace.

Gene was a loving husband and friend to his wife Nita Marie for 62 years. They raised their family in St. Ann, MO where they lived for 54 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Michael Kevin Cox.

Gene was employed by Lincoln – St. Louis for 38 years before retiring and helping Nita with her business. They retired together in 1995.

He was a loving dad to and loved by Mark/Donna, Ken/Teresa and Jenny. A loving grandpa to and loved by Lauren/Chris, Courtney/Joe, Chad/Francesca, Jared/Jamie and Ryan/Kari. A loving great-grandfather and loved by Calla, Kennedy, Ava, Parker, Jeffrey and Kristofer.

Gene was gentle and kind, humbly serving the God he loved and all he knew. Gene had a great love for family (loved the reunions with everyone) and friends. He loved spending time with you and would do anything for you. With a powerful sense of humor, he never missed an opportunity to tease someone. He was a great role model, teaching us by example what God-like character is. A warm welcome he’d greet you with,…and the same when you’d part.

On Easter morning he quietly laid down to rest and awoke celebrating His savior in heaven. We can hear the Lord say to him, “Well done good and faithful servant”. We love him and will so miss him, but know we will see him again.

A special thanks to and much love for our Missouri V.A. home family who served and cared for Gene the last two and half years. A veteran, loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandfather, family member and friend. You loved and honored him. You honored us – for that we are forever grateful.

What a beautiful testament to the life Uncle Gene lived. Every word of it true. I miss him terribly already. He was a huge part of my life and someone I always looked up to, wanted to be around and wanted to be near. He will always be loved and missed by all that knew him but especially by those he called family. My heart grieves for all of us left behind but rejoices for him because he is now HOME, with his Lord and Savior.

You are so right Gene will be missed by so many. What a wonderful neighbor and friend. Such a giving man and always willing to help as I know that. He was always there for me. The funniest thing I’ll never forget is having car trouble all the time. He said to me if I ever win the lottery he was going to buy me a new car. I looked at him and said “ Gene that’s really nice of you but one thing, you don’t ever buy lottery tickets.” He gave me that look and laughed and said your right “. I can to this day see that laugh. What great memories I have of him and Nita. Lots of love Gene

This is such a beautiful tribute to a very good man. We’ll miss you Uncle Gene, but I imagine we’ll all have a fine reunion in Heaven one day. God bless your soul dear man.
