Harriet Marie Williams

September 10th, 1925 – May 15th,2023

Harriet Marie Williams, 97, passed away peacefully May 15, 2023. Harriet was a delightful, kind, and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who was loved by everyone she met. Born in Des Moines, Iowa to Swedish immigrants Erik Valentine Hedberg and Kristina Elizabeth Fredrickson Hedberg. In Des Moines, Harriet met her husband of 46 years, Dean E. Williams, Sr. of Grand Junction, Iowa, and together they built a comfortable and successful life and family. Their journey landed them in New York City, Riverside, CT, New Orleans and finally, in 1959, in St. Louis. Harriet was a secretary at a bank prior to becoming a homemaker. She was a volunteer at Barnes Hospital for more than 40 years, and an active member for over 60 years of Salem United Methodist Church. She had many talents and hobbies including reading, sewing, cooking, avoiding the sun and avoiding exercise, and baking delicious pies; although the pies she always chided “were probably not going to be very good”; they were always the best! She made a lasting impression on those she touched as “the sweetest woman”. She is survived by her children, Melinda Mortland (Chet Pleban), Dean Jr. (Lisa) and Lisa Nelson (Brian). Meema to five grandchildren, Nicholas Engel, Elizabeth Harbison, Anna, Jane and Ted Nelson and three great grandchildren, Emma Taggart, Alexis and Mason Harbison. Harriet never liked being the center of attention and per her wishes there will be a private service.
