Hella Crowe Smith

Hella Crowe Smith, 51, lost her fight with cancer on May 11, 2017. She was sleeping comfortably at home as she took her last breath and entered the arms of Jesus.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Warren (St. Louis); her two children, Daniel and Madeleine (St. Louis); her brother, Perry Crowe (Winder, Georgia), and her sister, Cindy Hutchins (Watkinsville, Georgia). She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Manning and Peggy Crowe.

Hella was born in Athens, Georgia in 1965. In 1983 she graduated from Winder Barrow High School in Winder, Georgia. She attended Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, Georgia for three years prior to completing her BSN at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga in 1988. In 2012 she earned her MSN from Goldfarb School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri.

Hella served as a nurse for thirty years; as both a home-health nurse for Continu-Care and a wound care nurse at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga Tennessee; in the cancer center at Missouri Baptist Medical Center; and most recently as a Board-Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis.

Hella was a long-time and active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Covenant Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, Missouri. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school to children.

The central theme of Hella’s life was living to honor Jesus. The number one priority of her life was to glorify God. While her accomplishments as a nurse are many and the love she had for her friends and family was abundant, she would want to be remembered as a good and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in honor of Hella is asked to consider making a contribution to one or both of the following organizations that meant so much to Hella:

    Dear arren,
Just to assure you that the distance between us does not diminish my concern for you, Daniel and Madeline. I know how tough things are for you but having walked in your shoes I know that time heals and along with your faith you’ll make it through this low and dark time in your life. Just remember you are loved by many as well as our Heavenly Father. Give my love to your Mom and Dad. Keep in touch.
    Love and prayers,
    Jeanette PerryI
