Herbert “Bert” Lee Coons

Herbert “Bert” Lee Coons, born September 6, 1928, son of Wilbur Coons and Virginia Lee Gallhardt passed on June 19, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris White Coons. Father of David William Coons, husband to Jane Barbara Coons (nee Schwab) and Douglas Norman Coons, husband to Donna Coons (nee Thompson). Bert is the grandfather of Kathleen Virginia Smith (nee Coons), wife to Kolin Smith and Trevor Lee Coons, husband to Haley Coons (nee Mann), Dana Michelle Coons and Dylin Jeannette Coons. He is the great-grandfather of Tripp William Coons, Nora Jean Coons and Kaylin Noelle Smith. Bert was the owner and principal agent of Herbert L. Coons Agency in Chicago and Business Insurance Consultants, also in Chicago. He was an accomplished artist, metal sculptor, and race car driver. After moving to Ballwin Missouri in 2004, Alzheimer’s disease slowly claimed his mind then rapidly claimed his body. A Mason who served many years on the Board of Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Bert was an active member of the Scottish Right, Valley of Chicago and the Shrine. As “Hi-Ho the Clown, he entertained children at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Chicago. The family does not plan to hold a memorial service, but rather celebrate the memory and vitality of Bert in private.

    My prayers and condolences for the entire family. I know he will be missed by all the family, but good memories will stay alive forever.

    We loved Bert so much, he will be missed. We are happy know he is in heaven with our Lord now. I know my Mom, Jean was there to meet him.
    I just want you to know my Dad & I are with you in thought & prayers.
