Herbert V. Cray, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2014 in St. Louis, MO.

Herb is survived by his sister Suzanne Korte of Las Vegas, NV; four children: Charles Michael Cray of Fayetteville, TN, Christine Cray Johnson of Aurora, IL, Anthony Cray of New Melle, MO, & Daniel Cray of St Louis, MO; fifteen grandchildren: Scott Cray, Michelle Baker, Rodhika Ingram (Cray), Justin Cray, Kenny Cray, Alexandria Cray, Anna Cray, Danny Cray, Sydney Cray, Riley Cray, Niko Cray, Lily Cray, Jennifer Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, & Candace Johnson; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years Dorothy M Cray (McNeely) in 2001, and two sons, Herbert Cray III in 2001 and Kenneth Cray in 1991. Herb was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all.

Herb spent the majority of his working life in the restaurant business, most notably as maitre d’ at Tony’s, a St Louis landmark. He retired in 2000 and soon after was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Herb spent the rest of his years enjoying a good meal while visiting with family & friends. At his request, his body has been donated to Washington University School of Medicine. The family will hold a private service.

    Herb, you will be missed but I know that Dorothy is so happy to have you back.
    Herb and Kenny will also be happy to be with you again.

    My husband, Bill Riedesel, who passed away in 2012, knew Herb very well. He often mentioned how he enjoyed their conversations and the impact they had on him.
