Horace McNary

Horace “Sonny” McNary exchanged this life for eternal rest on Friday, July 16, 2021.

He was born April 22, 1935 to Lizzie Ann and Gus McNary in Egypt, Mississippi. The youngest of 9 children, his parents, siblings, son Skippy, niece Minnie King and nephew Jerome Hardy precede him in death.

Although he completed his education in Mississippi, Horace moved to St. Louis, Missouri at an early age and was baptized and accepted Christ as his Savior even earlier. He attended West End Gospel Hall and Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church later in life. One of his favorite gospel songs was “I won’t complain.”

A hard and reliable worker, Horace was employed by McCormick Baron Companies for 20 years. He regularly worked other maintenance jobs throughout his life and, ever popular within his community, would always act as his friend’s and family’s personal driver.

Horace had a great personality that warmed the hearts of so many people he came in contact with. In his leisure time earlier in life he enjoyed riding horses, fishing, hunting, and playing the guitar and harmonica.

He was a caring and funny husband who never complained even when he was sick with his wife Margie McNary (Moore) always by his side. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children Larry McNary, Jerry McNary, and Lynette McNary; his stepchildren Antonio (Carol) Moore and Cynthia (Vernon) Clark; his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family also wishes to recognize the special caretakers in his life from The Life Care Center of St. Louis and Seasons Hospice.

Services will be held on July 30, 2021 at St. Louis Cremation on 2135 Chouteau Ave in St. Louis. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the Service to immediately follow.
