Jack Shepherd

Jack Hayden Shepherd passed away suddenly at 11:33 AM on February 27, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 10, 1943. He is predeceased by his father, Howard Shepherd; his mother, Ann Shepherd; his brother, Howard Shepherd; and his sister-in-law, Patsy Ann Shepherd. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Kathleen Shepherd. Jack is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Todd (Joan), Scott (Lori), and Jack (Pam) Shepherd, along with their families. He is also cherished by his grandchildren, Tate, Heath, Jess (Logan), Jack, and Ashley; his nieces, Kelly and Kimberly Ann; his cousins, Linda Gunkel, Dave Gunkel, and Art Bonney; and countless other family members and friends who adored him.

Jack was a shining star in high school, both on the football field and as prom king. His greatest love story began on a blind date with Mary Kathleen, and just two years later, on February 13, 1965, they began their beautiful journey as husband and wife. Soon after, they had three wonderful boys who looked up to Jack with great admiration.

Jack spent his early career working in the model plane department at McDonnell Douglas before venturing into business. In the 1980s, he owned a successful siding company, and in the ’90s, he and Mary opened Slap Shots, a beloved local tavern in Brentwood. Later, he found joy in buying and selling used cars and tires.

Known by all as a kind and generous man, Jack’s greatest passion was his family. He was the best grandpa—always ready with a prank, a big hug, and endless love for his grand babies. His warmth and humor touched everyone he met, whether in person or through his favorite pastime—Facebook—where he kept in touch with friends and shared jokes that never failed to bring a smile. Jack’s love, laughter, and generosity will be deeply missed; his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Per Jack’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
