James Alexander Brickey

December 8, 1939 – September 19, 2026

James A. (Jim) Brickey, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, following a brief illness. In the days and hours leading up to his passing, Big Jim, as he was affectionately known, was comforted by the presence of his wife, children, grandchildren, and many beloved family members. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved him beyond measure.

Jim was the mischievous youngest child of the late Charles (“Bepo”) and Elizabeth (“Bopo”) Brickey and lived the majority of his life in Shrewsbury, Missouri, of all places. He attended St. Michael the Archangel and later graduated from Webster Groves High School. Jim was the last surviving sibling of his generation of Brickeys, preceded in death by his brother Glenn (Patricia) and sister Beverly.

Family was the cornerstone of Jim’s life. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Kathryn “Kathy” Brickey (née Goessling), children James R. Brickey, Douglas (Laurie) Brickey, Teri Brickey, Melissa Brickey (David Kirtley), Lori (Brian) Weber, Suzanne (Matthew) Judd, Michael Brickey (Brittany Marquardt), Maryann (Lauren) Brickey, Jeni (Troy) Hansen, and Carrie (Cassi) Brickey Brown, 22 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved eldest daughter Catherine Arlene Brickey. His remaining children are comforted by the thought that he is now reunited with our dear Cathy after more than 46 years of separation. Jim also had many nieces, nephews, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, whom he loved. He always felt blessed to have so many young people in his life to love.

Jim will be remembered for his warmth, big hugs, smile, boisterous laugh, his devotion to his family, and the lasting legacy of love he leaves behind. He was always one who could be counted on to lead or join in song, dance, or do anything to get a smile out of those around him. Sharing his life with his wife and children, and the love and closeness they share, is the lasting legacy of a tremendous man who loved big and unabashedly.

Services: Visitation at St. Michael The Archangel (7622 Sutherland 63119) on Thursday, October 8, from 10 a.m. until Mass time at 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cathy Brickey Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Bishop DuBourg High School.
