Life Reflections:
James “Li Brother” Earl, Jr. was born on January 11, 1948, in St. Louis, MO. He was the first son and third child born to the union of James D. Earl, Sr. and Aressie (Walls) Earl. His parents, two siblings (Thessalonians Earl Sr. and Jane (Earl) Strong, grandparents Ollie Mae Powell, Sam and Alice (Hegwood) Walls and one niece, Chaunta T. Earl proceeded him in death.
He attended L’Ouverture elementary school and retired from Pine Transportation. He continued to work for various employers as a labor, Sears & Robuck, deli staff at Feldman’s grocery store and an honorary greeter/benchwarmer/security/stocker at Schnuck’s Supermarket @ Grand/Gravois. James was a huge fan of the Young & The Restless soap opera. His daily routine was organized around the 11am M-F show time. He was sure to have completed his daily walk and errands in order not to miss his favorite soap opera. If you called during his Y & R time the call went straight to voice mail. Also, he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, his one and only sports team. Once the season was over, that was it, no other sports team was an option. He would wait until the St. Louis Cardinals next season.
Li Brother resided with family and was a quiet man; it was a challenge sometimes get him to stay in the room with you and hold a conversation, but he would talk when he had something to say, needed his cell phone updated or when his great-nephews would visit and knock on his bedroom door yelling “uncle, uncle”. After the passing of his best friend Vernell Irving in 2019, he enjoyed going to the movies and out to dinner with his younger sister Patscene and would occasionally tag along to his older sisters, Anita for a family gathering, birthday or bar-b-que celebration and his daily visits to Schnucks (Rain/Sleet/Snow/Zero degree etc.).
James passed away in St. Louis, MO in the early morning on January 19th at Beauvais Manor. He was in the care of the facility and Unity Hospice Care. James “Li Brother” leaves to cherish his memories, Sisters: Anita Wraggs, Yvonne Earl (Melvin) and Patscene Mooney. Nephews: Cortez Wraggs, Corvell “Duck” Wraggs, Thessalonians Earl, Jr., Terrell Earl (Nicole), Jessie C. Mooney III. Nieces: Carla Strong (Lance), Pamela Reed, Carolyn D. Jamerison, Rochelle Wraggs, Tasha Earl, Tashara Earl, Ayricca Earl, Nahja Earl and a loving host of Great nephews/nieces, Uncle Melvin (Eda) Walls, Aunts Barbara “Bobbie” Haley and Alfrancis Clay; a very special host of 1st cousins, other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
There is a time for everything and a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; a time to weep; And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace. What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him. That which is has already been, And what is to be has already been; And God requires an account of what is past.
