He was the beloved uncle of Jessica Brady, Alexa and Ryan Knoll, Ariel Hyams, Micaela Hyams and Seth Young, and Olivia King. He relished the role of great-uncle Jim in welcoming Theo Hyams-Young to the clan. He was also a dear cousin, friend, and neighbor to many.
Jim loved gardening and helping others create gardens, fostering sustainability and sustenance. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing guitar and woodworking. Over the years he really honed his woodworking craft, which he shared with others.
Jim possessed a unique wit and charm that enhanced all his interactions leaving the participants with a shared sense of fondness and gratitude. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
The following is a poem that Jim carried and referred to many times over the years:
There comes a time in life when we
are prone to stop and think
and view the ledger of the past
its red and sky blue ink
For life is like a ledger
we write upon its years
the good things and the bad things
the happiness and tears
Things long since gone confront us
when scanning yesterdays
and many things we should forget
appear in memory’s haze
Mistakes we made are brought to light
and deep inside we yearn
to rectify our errors
but we cannot return
Yes, once a thing is over with
it is forever done
no matter what we say or do
the web is tightly spun
Still it is good to take accounting
of the days gone by
because they teach us what it means
to laugh as well as cry.
