James “Jimmy” W. Smith

James “Jimmy” W. Smith age 94 passed away Friday, June, 24 2022 .  Beloved husband of the late Charlotte Smith of 67 years. Dear father to Scott J. Smith and Shari L Smith.  Dear son of the late Shelby and Mabel Smith, dear brother of the late Ronald (Mary) Smith and the late Raymond Smith.  Brother in law to William & Marie Prester, and the late George Prester & Allice Prester.  Our dearest Uncle, cousin and friend to all.

James (Jimmy) was born in Cleaton, Ky moved to Chicago during the depression where he meet the love of his life and wife of 67 years and best friend for 84.  After attending Austin High Jimmy proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and upon return graduated from Elmhurst College.  Jim started his insurance career in 1951.  He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, McCaully Club and remained active well into his 80’s.  

Jim was a proud Shriner and Potentate of Moolah Temple in 1983, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shriners Hospital in 1887-88, retiring as Chairman Emeritus after many years of service.  Jim was active in many organizations and was Board Emeritus of Every Childs Hope (ECH), past chair of Ferguson Florissant School Board Advisory Council and an active member of numerous organizations that help children and families throughout his many years.  Jimmy touched the lives of many, and he will be lovingly remembered by all who know him. 

Services for Jim will be private in accordance with his wished and interment in Chicago with family.

    Sherri, your Dad was one of kind and will be truly missed, I was better for having known him. Gail and I send our deepest condolences.
