James M. Howard

James M. Howard, born 11/4/1934, left this life to be with his Lord on 7/10/23. He is survived by his four children; Rick (wife Diane), Sandra Tate (husband Ron), Michael (wife Joan) and Debra Meidel (husband Kurt), nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Both of his parents, his wife and his two brothers preceded him in death. 

James graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School in Hartsburg, Illinois and attended college at Anderson University and Illinois State University where he also received his doctoral degree in education administration. He spent 45 years in public education and administration. He taught and was a principal in San Jose, Illinois. He was in administrative positions at Illinois State University, The Illinois Board of Higher Education, The Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Community College Board. He served as Vice President for Administrative Services at Lincoln Land Community College and completed his career as the President of LLCC from 1999 until he retired in 2002. 

Dr. Howard was active in community affairs serving on many boards including Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  He was also very active at Cherry Hills church where he had been a member since 1970. He served on both the board of deacons and the board of elders, serving as chair for many of those years. He loved his Lord dearly and served Him in other capacities at Cherry Hills. 

He loved his family dearly. The highlights of his life were spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also blessed by having a devoted wife who was at his side for 65 years. 

His life will be Celebrated on July 29, 2023 at his church home.

    So sorry, he was a fine man, and my cousin. Age prevents me from attending services. We echanged visits as children and adults and spent a career in education and service to others. His work affected so many young students entering the workforce. you certainly had a father to make you proud. Lee
