James Patrick Whalen, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. He was born on January 22, 1933.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, dedicating many years to military service before retiring with the rank of Full Colonel. His career was marked by commitment, leadership, and honor, values he carried throughout his life.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. James is survived by his beloved spouse, Joyce Whalen; his daughter Karen (Peter); and his cherished grandchildren Ian, J.C. (Whitney), and Lauren (David). He also leaves behind two treasured great-grandchildren, Isabella and Austin.

James was preceded in death by his daughter Carol, and his sons James and Matthew.

He will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the generations he leaves behind and in the many lives he touched through his service and character.

Burial, with military honors, will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 1:30 pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 2900 Sheridan Road, Saint Louis, Missouri.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ name to the American Heart Association and/or to St. Croix Hospice in St. Charles, Missouri.
