James E. “Jim” Vaughn
February 4, 1958 – June 19, 2025
James E. Vaughn, lovingly known as Jim or Jimmy, passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on February 4, 1958, in Potosi, Missouri, Jim lived a full and flavorful life rooted in love for his family, his craft, and his community.
Jim was the beloved husband of Leslie A. Vaughn, with whom he shared over 25 years of marriage since their wedding on January 17, 1999, in St. Louis, Missouri. Together they built a home full of laughter, good food, and deep love.
He is survived by his devoted wife Leslie; his daughters Tracy Vaughn and Angel (Chico) Vaughn; his stepchildren Crystal (Terry) Kaelin, Larry Jasenowski, Ben Jasenowski, and Jamie Gavin; and his dear brother David (Deanne) Vaughn. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Charlie Richie, many grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends near and far who will deeply miss him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Mary L. and Corbit L. Vaughn, and his siblings Carol Richie, Lisa Vaughn, and Gerald Vaughn.
A gifted and passionate chef, Jim built a celebrated career in some of the most iconic kitchens on The Hill and in downtown St. Louis. He was widely known for his culinary artistry, generous spirit, and for the joy he brought to every dish he created. His talents earned him recognition in the industry, but it was his family who were the lucky daily recipients of his favorite meals.
Jim loved nothing more than cooking for those he cared about. When he wasn’t in the kitchen, you could find him cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, Blues hockey, Kansas City Chiefs football, and Mizzou athletics. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his cherished dog, Sonny.
A visitation to honor Jim’s life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at St. Louis Cremation, 2135 Chouteau Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63103.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of St. Louis, a cause close to his heart.
Jim Vaughn will be remembered for his warm heart, generous table, and the love he shared so freely. His memory will live on in the meals we gather around, the teams we cheer for, and the family stories we tell.
