James William “Jim” Fullinwider

James William “Jim” Fullinwider departed this life on January 2, 2023, at the age of 78.

Jim was the beloved husband of Marguerite “Midge” Fischer for 28 years. He was the loving father of daughter Anna Abernathy, son-in-law Dave Abernathy; daughter Karen Dalby, and son-in-law Sam Dalby. He was the beloved stepfather of Chris Fischer, stepdaughter-in-law Richelle Fischer, and Peter Fischer. He was the beloved grandfather of Ryan, Mackenzie, Sean, Kathryn, Lindsey, Ally, Maggie, Rachel, Harrison, Amelia, Peter, and Emma; and great-grandfather of Bennett and Caroline.

Jim was the son of the late William “Billy” and Geraldine Fullinwider, he is survived by his brother Robert (Bob) Fullinwider and sister Frances Wollenman.

Jim was devoted to his family and found great comfort in their many visits. Holiday family affairs over the years were ruckus, delightful events loved by Jim. At his last Christmas, every child and grandchild were with him to celebrate. He was an inspiration to all and will be deeply missed by his family.

Jim graduated from the University of Chicago in 1966 and went on to earn his doctorate in history from Washington University. He was a teacher at St. Louis Priory School for eight years before joining Monsanto as a speech writer.

Jim was a passionate reader of history, biographies, and foreign cultures. He loved to travel and enjoyed long visits to Spain and Italy. When working for Monsanto, he traveled often and enjoyed the opportunity to live in Hong Kong for a short while. He enjoyed cooking, ethnic food, the symphony, and walks in Forest Park. He loved to camp and fish, especially with his father when younger and more recently, with his brother when attending car races.

A Memorial Service followed by a reception in the Great Hall will be held on February 4, 2023, at 11 AM at The Church of St. Michael and St. George, 6345 Wydown Blvd., Clayton, MO 63105.

In lieu of flowers, tributes to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra or Forest Park Forever would be appreciated.
