Janet Colleen Duke

In Loving Memory of Janet Colleen Duke
Born: November 14, 1936 • Died: July 27, 2025

Janet Colleen Duke (née Duke) entered the world on November 14, 1936, beloved daughter of Joseph Francis Duke and Jimmie Etta Janet “Jimmie”Duke (née Donaghey). She was the youngest of eight children, growing up surrounded by the warmth, kindness, and camaraderie of her large family. Today, she joins her older siblings in eternal peace—only her sister Margie “Cookie” Schaffer survives her.

Janet devoted her life to service, both in and out of the classroom. A graduate of Harris Teachers College and holding a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Louis University, she dedicated 38 years of her life teaching in public schools—shaping countless young minds with patience, wisdom, and tireless devotion.

Her passions extended beyond the classroom. Janet was a lifelong animal lover, spending her days advocating for and caring for creatures great and small.

Janet also leaves a rich legacy through her extended family. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great‑nieces and nephews who all carry forward her memory with fondness and affection. To many, she was more than an aunt—she was a mentor, a confidante, and a source of unconditional love.
