Janet Irene Johnson

June 13, 1931 – April 11, 2026

Janet Irene Johnson (nee Walker), 94, of St. Louis County passed away April 11, 2026. She was born June 13, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Janet is survived by her son, Michael J. (Rita) Johnson of St. Charles, MO and her daughter, Joni M. Zobel (Conrad) of Colville, WA; daughter-in-law Donna Robertson Johnson and two grandchildren, Amanda and Jacob Johnson of Wright City, MO; a brother, Floyd Walker; a sister, Cheryl Walker Genovese (Michael); dear nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Jesse Johnson; a son, Mark J. Johnson; two daughters, Geralyn A. Johnson and Mary M. Johnson; her parents Thomas and Dora Hahs Walker; a brother, Bryant Walker; sister, Bernice Walker Siros and brother-in-law James Siros; and sister-in-law, Virginia Nugent Walker.

Janet met her future husband, Jesse, when she was fourteen years old and he was fifteen, both living on Madison Street in St. Louis. They married in 1950 and were married fifty-one years until Jesse’s death in 2001. A devoted wife and mother, she cared for her autistic daughter, Mary, for close to fifty years. Always searching, always finding ways to help her children. Even though she lived a good portion of her life homebound, she was the forever optimist. Never complaining, never without a smile. She loved to laugh. We will miss her beyond words.

Visitation, Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at St. Louis Cremation, 320 Jungermann Road, St. Peters, MO 63376.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Judevine Center for Autism in St. Louis would be greatly appreciated.

I too will dearly miss my aunt Janet. I am so glad that i was able to be with her during her time of need and comfort and before then. I will miss all the fun we had before with mom, going to the movies, dinners at Dennys, our talks, singing around the player piano… i could go on. Will miss and love you
