Janet McNichols

McNichols, Janet S, 77, passed away peacefully Friday, June 22, 2018.

Janet was the daughter of her late beloved parents, Melba and Walter McNichols, and sister of the late Diane Bloomquist (nee McNichols). Janet is survived by her loving daughter, Julie Shafferkoetter, grandson, Samuel Fox, brother in-law, Edmund Bloomquist (Elaine), nephew, Brad Bloomquist (Julie), and niece, Jill Chapman (Mark).

After 29 years of a successful professional career with Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Janet was a journalist for the STL Post-Dispatch for over 15 years and was one of the few survivors of the Kirkwood mass shooting while covering the Kirkwood city council meeting. She is twice degreed from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in Photojournalism, and an MA in Liberal Arts.

Janet lived an adventurous life full of world travel, education and art. She was a long time member and past President of the STL Camera Club, a member of STL Gateway Knitters, the Writer’s Guild, a season ticket holder of the Repertory Theater, Opera Theater, the Fabulous Fox Theatre, and faithfully manned the voter’s polls for many years. She was a ferocious reader, an avid knitter and designer, a seamstress, a photographer, a writer and a journalist. She had a great dry sense of humor, and woke up every day with a smile on her face. She was a devoted grandmother never missing her grandson’s baseball and football games. Janet’s wealth of knowledge and many talents were admired by so many yet she remained so very humble.
