Jean A. Dederer

Jean A. Dederer

October 3, 1935 – February 4, 2015

Sadly, Jean lost her battle with cancer on February 4, 2015. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. Jean was the daughter of the late Dorothy C. and William K. Askin of Sparta, New Jersey. She is survived by her younger brother, William C. Askin and his wife Nancy, of Sparta, New Jersey; her son David W. Dederer and his wife Gina, of Essen, Germany; her daughter, Laura Dederer DeCarlo and her husband Alan, of Loudon, Tennessee; and her son Richard V. Dederer and his wife Jessica, of Ballwin, Missouri. She is survived by seven granddaughters and 2 grandsons.

Jean was born in Rochester, New York; lived in Utica, New York, Montclair, New Jersey, Park Ridge, Illinois and later Sparta, New Jersey, where she was crowned Miss Sparta in 1955. She graduated from Centenary College of New Jersey, married Edwin V. Dederer, Jr., lived and raised her family, first in New Providence, New Jersey and later in Walpole, Massachusetts.

For the last 30 years she resided in Franklin, Massachusetts, where her favorite pastimes were to sit on her condominium balcony, reading a good book, and entertaining family and friends. She also enjoyed exploring New England and the company of her longtime travel and dinner companions, affectionately nicknamed “The Amigos.” She recently relocated to Chesterfield, Missouri to be near her St. Louis Cardinals baseball-loving family-although Jean herself would always remain an avid New England Patriots fan and was able to enjoy seeing the Patriots win their fourth Super Bowl Championship.

Jean, “Mom”, “Gram”, “Grandma Jean”, “Oma Jean” will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.

At her request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated at https://donate.cancer.org/index

So sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. We were neighbors in Franklin and spent many hours just talking in the hallway. Sadly, we lost touch after she moved but Jean was always in my prayers. Lovely lady! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this sad time.
