Jerry Brocksmith
Jerome Anthony “Jerry” “Homer” Brocksmith, 66, of Missouri, passed away on May 14th, 2026, and true to form, has taken on the role of Mayor of Heaven.
He is survived by the love of his life, Penny (nee Martin) Brocksmith; his brothers, Jim (Debby) Brocksmith and John (Linda) Brocksmith; his stepdaughters, Alison Hennessy and Tricia Powell (Zach); and his beloved granddaughters, Kylie Elrod, Kyndall Turberville, and Maddie Elrod, affectionately known by Jerry as “Bob 1,” “Bob 2,” and ‘Bob 3.” He also leaves behind nephews, nieces, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish the laughter he brought into their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Antoinette (nee Pott) Brocksmith and his brother Joseph A. Brocksmith.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Jerry was known for his quick wit, unforgettable stories, and the ability to make everyone around him laugh. A retired Union Painter, he worked hard throughout his life and was proud of the friendships and memories he made along the way.
Jerry’s greatest joy was his family. He loved the outdoors tending to his tropical plants. He loved being with his brother Joe and nephew Joey and hunting friends at Deer Camp. He loved beach vacations in the Caribbean with Penny and always made new friends in far-away places.
Whether he was telling stories – or ‘lies,’ as he like to call them –joking around with family, or happily serving as the makeup model for his granddaughters, Jerry made every event gathering brighter. The best moments with him were filled with teasing, laughter, and love.
Jerry never met a stranger and could turn any ordinary moment into a memory worth retelling. His sense of humor, playful spirit, and love for making people smile will forever be remembered by everyone lucky enough to know him. Family and friend gatherings will never be quite the same without his laughter and stories filling the room.
Jerry loved telling people that he had a party every weekend but didn’t invite anyone other than Penny. He also always reminded everyone that he was cooler than Santa Claus –something his family will never forget hearing him say with a smile.
Jerry will be deeply missed for his humor, his big heart, and the countless memories he gave to those who loved him. His stories will live on around family tables for years to come.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My sympathy to Homer’s family.
The montage was a wonderful reflection of him.
Bon Voyage Homer. You’ll be missed by many.
All My Love and Sympathy to Penny, Jim, and John, plus ALL of Jerry’s Extended Family who will miss him SO much.
The obituary is right on target, like Jerry shooting at a deer, or so he told you. Like so many things he said he always gave himself an inch.
But don’t be fooled, Jerry was the kind of Man who would give you the shirt off his back. And he did to me more than once.
Jerry and I had some great times together. Not only was he my Cousin, he was my Friend. I don’t think he ever met anyone he did not befriend.
He was ONE of a kind and Heaven has welcomed a GREAT HUMAN BEING.
Jerry you will never be forgotten and will always be in my heart. I Love You.
Aww…my cousin, by marriage , Jerry/AKA…”Homer” we called him from when we were all young kids 50’years ago, and he took that tombstone from a cemetery, and his named somehow changed to”HOMER”. He was always so much fun to be around, and the life of every party. My late husband, Ron Pohlman, who passed away a year ago, always loved
Homer too., and said he was his “Colorful Cousin” and truly loved his cousin, and all of his Brocksmith Boy cousins. He would tell me of so many stories growing up with them, and we both loved their Mom, the sweet and fun Aunt Toni. She was a wonderful Mom who raise four sons on her own, and did a familial job. My heart goes out yo Penny, her daughters and their grandchildren, Jim and John and family. Also to Joe’s family that were so close. God bless you all, you are in my prayers. I hope my Ron and Homer are up in Heaven together enjoying a Beer together! I have always loved the Brocksmith family as much as my own family.🙏🙏
Homer what a good man I will see your face again you will be missed buy many until we meet again rip my friend…Harry Birkenmeier
My deepest sympathies to Jim, John, Penny and all who loved Homer…so many fond memories of Homer from Skeeter’s softball games to camping and float trips from years past. Eternal rest grant unto him and may perpetual light shine upon him. You will be missed.
Penny,
Your heart must be in a million/zillion pieces and I grieve with you, regarding the loss of your husband. From what I have read, he was an amazing soul and you two were forever soulmates.
May those memories and the laughter you shared give you peace. He is watching over you and sending love from above.
Many hugs –
Carol
