Jerry Hoffman
age 76, of Webster Groves, Missouri, passed away on October 10, 2026 after a short illness.
Jerry was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ed and Rhoda Hoffman and grew up on Long Island. He attended Drake University and earned a degree in broadcast journalism in 1972. Jerry was a proud member of the I.B.E.W. union and worked in various television engineering positions in cable and broadcast journalism in Iowa, New York, Ohio, and St. Louis, Missouri. He retired from KSDK-TV where he worked as a cameraman, audio and technical director for the evening news.
Jerry loved watching sports of all kinds. He never stopped rooting for the NY sports teams he grew up with – the Yankees, the Giants and the Knicks (although he also enjoyed booing the Mets when they played the Cardinals at Busch Stadium). While he never played an instrument himself, he was a huge fan of music. His vast CD collection was made up of mostly rock and jazz, including favorites like Bob Dylan and Johnny Hartman. Jerry loved tv and movies and could always find a reason to quote his favorite movie of all time, The Godfather. Anyone who knew Jerry also knew Chinese food had a special place in his heart – especially Wonton King.
Jerry is survived by his wife Micki, daughter Mollie Grossmann, grandchildren Charlie and Julia Grossmann, and his sisters Laurie Hoffman, Norma Borgen, and Gail McCauley.
As one of Jerry’s favorite philosophers Alan Watts once said in an interview about death –
“When death comes, it’s just like winter. We don’t say, ‘There ought not to be winter.’
That the winter season, when the leaves fall and the snow comes, is some kind of defeat,
something which we should hold out against. No. Winter is part of the natural course of
events. No winter, no summer. No cold, no heat.”
Charitable donations in remembrance of Jerry can be made to a labor union strike fund or boxer animal rescue organization of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

What a great picture and a lovely write up to remember Gerry by.
Dear Micki, Mollie, Charlie, Julia, Laurie, Norma and Gail,
my condolences on Jerry’s passing. I can still remember the first time Micki brought Jerry home from college to meet our family. I think we played Scrabble! Many memories in the years that followed as I visited them in new places.
May his name be as a blessing. (Hebrew prayer).
