Jill Ann Schmid

I am the place where love shines through.
For it and I are one, not two.
Love wants me where, and as I am,
I need not fear, nor fret, nor plan.
If I will be relaxed and free,
Love will carry out its work
through me.

The meaning of life is to find your gift.
The purpose of life is to give it away.

On Sunday, May 16th, 2021 Jill Schmid passed away while on holiday in San Francisco, California. Jill was an incredibly generous and loving person and it is the way she will be remembered by those lucky enough to know her. She died in her sleep, in no pain, in a beautiful location.

Jill was born on January 6th, 1963 in St Louis, Missouri to parents Judith G. Kingston and Robert L. Schmid. After highschool she joined the United States Air Force where she earned the M16A1 Sharpshooter Marksmanship badge before beginning a career as an Avionics Technician on the F-111 Aardvark attack aircraft. She served in Alaska, New Mexico, and the United Kingdom for a total of 5 years before her honorable discharge.

Following her military career, she graduated from Belleville Area College (now Southwestern Illinois College) with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse for 16 years working in a variety of positions including the Emergency Room, Oncology, and the Center for Advanced Medicine at Barnes Jeweish Hospital.

Upon retirement she was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army, Feed My People, Flood Relief, and for the 2016 and 2020 Bernie Sanders presidential campaigns. “FEEL THE BERN!”

Jill did not have a fear of death and faced her mortality with openness and acceptance. She was not a religious person but was deeply spiritual and believed her energy would continue to permeate the universe after the death of her body. She was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by all.

Jill A Schmid was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Verla B. Hewitt (née Little) and William “Wick” Hewitt; paternal grandparents Ann Schmid (née Mizell) and Frank Schmid.

She is survived by her loving husband Morris “Buddy” Long; sons Kingston L. Eck, Travis A. Eck, and Luke H. Eck; daughter-in-law Kati C. Eck; parents Judith Kingston and father Robert L. Schmid; brothers Shawn Schmid, James J. Schmid, and Ben T. Schmid; sister Rachel L. Feazel; brother-in-law Mark Feazel; sister-in-law Dotty Schmid; nieces Katie Henson, David Hensen, Emily Feazel, and Annie Feazel; nephews Eddie Menees, Sam Hemmer, and Ben Schmid Jr.; great niece Margot Henson; special aunt; Deb Schulte; close friend Katie Oehmke; and countless other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She is forever in our hearts.

Jill is a beautiful loving person. Her heart was so big she loved helping family. She loved Buddy so much. The boys Kingston Travis and Luke were the love of her life and always talking about them she was a very proud mom. She will be forever in my heart and on my mind. I love you so much Jill.
