In Loving Memory of JoAnn Sadie Gabris (nee Hasser)

JoAnn Sadie Gabris, age 88, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on January 5, 2026.  Born on August 31, 1937, she was the beloved daughter of John J. Hasser and Bessie V. (Smith).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald M. Gabris and two brothers and their spouses: Phillip Hasser (June), and James Hasser (Peggy). She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Helen Gabris Carroll (James), and brothers-in-law, John Gabris (Helen), and Jerome Gabris (Georgia).

She is survived by her sister, Sharon Crnko (Tim), brother, Charles Hasser (Susan), sister-in-law, MaryAnn Gabris Azar (Herbert), and her four children, Joseph J. Gabris (Debby Winkler), John M. Gabris (Tommye Parsons), Kathleen M. Lang (Paul), and Judith A. Buckley (Mark).  She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren, Jeremy (Angie), Daniel (Brenda), Jeffrey, Matthew, Michael (Abby), Gregory (Jessie), Sean (Sarah), Stephen (Joanna), Vanessa Bornfriend (Eric), Ann Marie Lang (Corbin Bendel), Valerie Hoette (Tim), and James Buckley (Alex). In addition, she is survived by twenty-three great grandchildren as well as countless nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

JoAnn was a cherished member of the community known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness. Over the years she worked in health-related fields such as Community Service Aid for St. Louis County Health Department and several doctor offices. She also worked in administration at a local grade school and a local university.  In addition to those jobs, she took pride in working as a Poll Worker in St. Louis County elections.   She touched the lives of many through her dedication to volunteer work at her church and her children’s schools.

Among her many passions, JoAnn especially loved making Porcelain dolls, ushering at the Fox Theater, tending to her hibiscus and playing canasta and dominos with grade school, high school, and church friends.  JoAnn will be fondly remembered for cooking up a storm.  From cookies and cocoa bars to sauerbraten and kibbe, she took care of and fed everyone.

A mass celebrating JoAnn’s life will be held on February 28, 2026, 10:00 a.m., at St. Catherine Laboure Church, 9740 Sappington Road.  All are welcome to attend.

JoAnn’s spirit, kindness, and love will remain in our hearts forever.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.  And let perpetual light shine upon them. And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in Peace. Amen.
