Joanne Glass

Joanne Anderson Glass (Birth name Martha Joan Anderson), 77, a long time resident of Charleston, IL, went to be with the Lord at 10:58 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020. Joanne passed away after complications from Cancer surgery.

Joanne was born in Cumberland County, Illinois, on May 14, 1942, to Delbert Lee and Hollis Loranne (Tate) Anderson. She married James Monroe Glass Jr., on November 15, 1958. They divorced in 1963 and remarried on September 23 1966. She enjoyed celebrating both anniversaries!

Growing up mainly in Central Illinois, Joanne spent some of her teen years with her family in Houston, TX, where she meet her lifelong friend and spouse, Jim Glass. While raising her family, she worked as a line inspector at Zenith in Paris, IL, a press helper at Moore Business Forms in Charleston, and helped Jim with bookkeeping at the Phillips 66 station they owned in Charleston. After that time, she traveled with Jim from coast to coast while they built commercial retail stores and restaurants.

Joanne was a true artisan. She worked in various mediums including oils, acrylics, and chalk. She also designed and stitched many of her clothes, including matching Square Dance ensembles for she and Jim; quilted stunning pieces; and created beautiful beaded jewelry. She had a great eye for both color and design.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim, her daughters Jacquie Lynn (Charles) Klockow of Amherst, WI, and Julie Anne (Ernest) Garner of Loranger, LA, her son Jay Allen Glass of Amherst, WI; her sister ErmaJean (William) Hudson of Charleston, her brother Philip (Charleen) Anderson of Charleston, sisters-in-laws, Patricia (McNamer) Anderson of South Houston, TX, and Bertha (Gilbert) Anderson of Charleston; grandchildren, Sharmista (Teagan) Anthony of Amherst, WI; Ernest (Layne) Garner of Fairmount, ND, Lacey (Aaron) Marise of Loranger, LA, Justine Glass of Manassas, VA, Matthew (Sarah) Garner of Arlington, TN, Nathan (Sarah) Garner of Red Banks, MS, Hannah (Isaac) Monahan of Ponchatoula, LA, Rebecca (Titus) Foote of Ponchatoula, LA, Jessica (Charles) Crouse of Hammond, LA, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her long-time dear friend, Sherry Schoubroek of Channelview, TX.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Hollis (Tate) Anderson, sister Wanda Lee Adams and brother-in-law Corbert Adams, brothers, Robert Allen Anderson, James Harold Anderson, and Victor Jay Anderson.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020, at First Baptist Church, Charleston. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to First Baptist Church, 2800 University Dr, Charleston, IL 61920.

    Joanne was a beautiful lady and will be missed by her family and those who knew her. I always enjoyed being with her and talking about anything and everything!
