John Carter Traube

John Carter Traube, 48, of Columbia, IL passed Sunday 02/04/2018 at 2:04AM. John passed peacefully with his wife by his side after heroically battling brain cancer for the last 14 months. Born to Carolyn C. Traube and David L. Traube on December 11, 1969 in Belleville, IL, John is survived by his parents, his wife and soul mate Jennifer Traube, two beautiful daughters Meredith and Emily, Mother-in-law Katha Dionne, sister and brother Susan and Steve Traube, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jessica Liss and Mark Su, nieces and nephews Oliver, Eleanor, and Vivian Su and Ben Traube.

John attended Belleville East High School and Clarion University, where he was an 11 Time All American swimmer, before starting his career running the family business, Traube Tents and Structures. Under John’s guidance the company has been honored as one of St. Louis’ and the nation’s fastest growing companies multiple times. John was also an active advocate for the entire swimming community and volunteered countless hours to the sport. During his battle he was able to raise thousands of dollars for Swim Across America as their top fundraiser in St. Louis. Two days before his second brain surgery John completed the 2.4 mile swim successfully along with his daughters, brother, and many high school and college teammates. John’s greatest joy and success was his family. He will live forever in their hearts and minds.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service, which will be held under the big top on Saturday February 10, 2018 from 1:30 – 2:30 PM at Sunset Overlook in Columbia, IL. Due to a lack of parking, shuttles will be provided from Traube Tents & Structures at 510 DD Road Columbia, IL 62236 – only a two minute shuttle ride. Please arrive early to allow time for parking and transportation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Charitable contributions in memory of John can be made to St. Anthony’s de Greeff Hospice House (10024 Kennerly Rd, St Louis, MO 63128) or to Ozark Swimming (P.O. Box 8595 St. Louis, MO 63126) for the John Traube Memorial Scholarship.

Jen, Meredith and Emily, my heart is breaking for you all. I know that you are all strong women and will honor John by living the best life you can. He was an amazing person and inspired me to be a better person with his example. I am going to compete in swim across America this summer to honor John the way I know how. Live to you all.

    Jen,
Our hearts are with you and the girls. John was such a good guy. We will always remember him as a champion for the sport of swimming but more than that as a man of integrity and kindness. He will surely be missed.

    Jen & Girls,
I have walked in the shoes of Meredith and Emily as my dad died at 49 from cancer. I will never forget watching my mom’s pain or feeling my own so my heart breaks as another young family has to experience this heartache. I pray for your comfort and that you find joy and peace in the days ahead in the love and memories John blessed you all with. Much love and prayers. Garners
