John “Johann” Eigenseher

John ‘Johann’ Eigenseher, 91, son of Johann and Helene Eigenseher, passed away on May 25, 2018, at Mercy Hospital with family by his side.

John was born in Marienfeld, Ukraine on October 25, 1926. He married his “sweetie” Kathy (Katharina) Beirith on December 26, 1948, in Fallersleben, Germany. In 1952, the two of them made the long and difficult journey by Troopship “General R. M. Blatchford” to the United States with their sons and settled in Red Bud, IL. John became a citizen of the United States on June 1, 1962.

John worked at the Ruma Convent in Illinois until he moved his family to St. Louis, MO in 1956 and began working as a laborer. In 1959 John became an apprentice carpenter and he continued his career in the field of carpentry for 29 years.

In 1988, John retired at his home in Chesterfield, MO and spent his time gardening, caring for his chickens, fishing and hunting, and tinkering in his shed where he could make just about anything he could imagine. John and Kathy danced their way through 69 years and 5 months of marriage.

John is preceded in death by six siblings and his daughter, Bernadette Eigenseher.
John is survived by his wife, Kathy Eigenseher; his two sons, John Eigenseher and Robert Eigenseher; his two grandsons: John Michael Eigenseher and Jeffrey Robert Eigenseher; his three great-grandsons: Tyler Eigenseher, Mathew Eigenseher and Ezra Eigenseher; his brother: Josef Eigenseher; and his Sister: Rosa Bachman.
