John K Switzer Jr.
Captain John Keber Switzer Jr., 87, of Ballwin Missouri, passed away in the early hours of May 12 2018, with his loving wife and sisters by his side. He was born to the late John Sr. and Bernice Muckerman, October 22, 1930, in St. Louis County, Missouri. After high school, John enlisted to serve in the United States Military, eventually becoming a Photo-Reconnaissance Pilot in the Marine Corps. After serving for 11 years, Captain John Switzer Jr. was honorably discharged in 1968 when he came home to work at the Switzer Candy Company. The later portion of John’s life was spent wed to Joan Switzer (Married July 12, 1975) raising his two sons in the St. Louis area. His military service continued to heavily influence John’s passions which were photography and Aviation. He is survived by his two children, Matthew Switzer of Washington State; and Andrew Switzer of North Dakota. John is additionally survived by his two grandchildren: Nathan Alexander Switzer and Ryan John Jeffrey Switzer. A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at 4pm Thursday May 17th at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church (1919 South 7th Street, St. Louis MO 63104) followed by a Mass at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peter and Paul Community Services (2612 Wyoming Street, St. Louis Missouri 63118)

Joan and family; It is with great sadness in our hearts we write these notes. John was a good man to his wife and family. As you read these words, please know that we are thinking of you and hope that as time passes all the good memories of a life well lived shine above the grief.

I was always in awe of John —-5 years older and so good looking. His sister Sally was my age and in my class at Villa.

My heart goes out to John’s family. I know you will miss him terribly. I am just now receiving news of the memorial service (today is Sunday, May 20), or I would have come and expressed my condolences personally. Know that John was a wonderful man, and everyone in this family will remember him with love.
John’s next brother was my best friend from High School days, Chris, but I got to know John very well when he attended SLUH for his Senior year in HS. John had a WWII jeep which he painted bright yellow and we all rode around in that jeep raisin all kinds of juvenile heck together. The last time I saw John was at Chris’s funeral at St. Joseph’s Church in Clayton. My deepest sympathies to the family.
