John Mucho Jr.
October 2, 1952 – October 14, 2026
John Joseph Mucho Jr. passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the age of 74 near his home in St. Louis Hills, Missouri. John was born in Granite City, Illinois, on October 2, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents Rachel Laverne Mank (Clinard) and John Mucho Sr. as well as his grandparents Walter Grey “Pop” and Pearl “Granny” Clinard and John and Stella Mucho.
He was affectionately known by his friends and family as “Joe”, “Joey”, and “Papa Joe.” As a teenager, Joe always wished to be surrounded by beautiful women. With a wife, two daughters, and six granddaughters, he certainly got his wish. Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pamela Mucho (Kelpe), and his two daughters Jamie Barbarick (Michael) and Lori Timmons (Mike), as well as his six Granddaughters Alexia, Andi, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Kyle, and Eddy, his sister Sharon Brogdon (Steve) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family whom he loved dearly.
Joe began working at Tri-City Stock Car Racetrack selling soda-pop up and down the stands when he was only eight years old. He went on to hold various jobs throughout his youth, including picking radishes on the farms in Illinois, working at Dairy Queen, driving a tram at Silver Dollar City and raising calves and pigs with his Pop. Joe’s love for fast cars started young, and somewhere along the way, all that hard work paid off in the form of two Corvettes.
Joe served in the Army Reserves in the 1970s driving heavy machinery. He supported his family as an IT manager for 30 years and as a mortgage broker for 10 years. In his youth, he loved fast cars, westerns and trains. His passions carried him into adulthood where he built and displayed model train tracks and an extensive collection of western items, pocketknives, and historical pieces. Joe especially loved American history and his own family history. He enjoyed traveling to places connected to both. Joe researched and cataloged his family genealogy and was a proud descendant of Daniel Boone, William Brewster of the Mayflower, and several Founding Fathers.
Joe was also a sports fan. He loved hunting, water skiing and watching NASCAR and Cardinals baseball. Joe played recreational softball and participated in a bowling league in his youth and as an adult into the 1990s. He then switched to coaching his daughters and throwing endless mile high pop ups in the yard. In recent years, Joe enjoyed rekindling friendships with fellow Collinsville High School graduates and was a proud Kahok. Joe also enjoyed riding his Harley into his 60s and sampling various whiskeys.
Joe was strong in his faith in Jesus Christ and enjoyed reading his Bible. In fact, it may have been the only book without pictures anyone ever saw him read. His faith, love for his family, and the memories he leaves behind will always be a part of his legacy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 601 South Event Center,
601 South 4th Street St. Charles, MO 63301.
A special tribute will take place at 2:30 p.m., during which anyone is welcome to share a favorite memory or story about Joe.
Joe was known for his sweet tooth, so it only seems fitting that his Celebration of Life will feature “Joe’s Favorite Desserts.”
For those who wish to, we invite family and friends to share in the celebration by bringing a dessert to share that Joe loved or one that brings back a special memory of him.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to your favorite charity or raising a glass of whiskey in Joe’s honor.
