Joseph Robert Williamson
Joseph Robert Williamson MD, age 84, died peacefully in St. Louis on June 9, 2016.
Survived by Janet (nee Reinhardt) loving wife of 62 years, daughters Catherine (Paula Gianino), and Sherry, and granddaughters Elizabeth and Katherine; and sister Luella Claire (Walter Benson). Preceeded in death by brother James Allen. Beloved family member, colleague and friend to many.
Joe received his Medical Doctor Degree from Washington University School of Medicine in 1958 (Cum Laude). He was an esteemed member of the Washington University Medical School faculty since 1962. His expertise was in diabetes, medical research, metabolism and vascular pathophysiology. He was a frequent national and international lecturer on the complications of diabetes, and he published 154 peer reviewed articles in leading medical journals.
Joe received many awards including the Joslin Medal from the American Diabetes Association and the 2015 Alumni Achievement Award from Washington University School of Medicine. He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, chaired the World Conference on Diabetes Research and was a Pfizer visiting professor at Boston University.
Joe was an avid gardener, and with his wife created a magnificent garden at their lovely home. He loved the beauty of nature.
He grew up in Oklahoma, was an Eagle scout, and was a proud veteran of the Korean War.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 10:00 am at The Willows at Brooking Park, 211 South Woods Mill Road, Chesterfield, Missouri.
