Joseph Thomas Coone (Joe)
Joseph Thomas Coone (Joe) passed away at home on February 15th, 2025 after 3 years of battling cancer with positivity and grace. Joe was born in Beacon, NY on March 10th, 1953.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and his son, Mikey. He is survived by his sisters Sandy (Tom), Michele (Rich), Karen, Suzanne (Robert), and brother Thomas; daughters Veronica, Diane, and Liz (Alan); and grandchildren Lilli, Aliyah, Maya, Nate, and Miriam.
Joe cared deeply for his family. The death of his son, Mikey, at age 3 was devastating for him. Nevertheless, he took pride in the joys and accomplishments of his 3 surviving daughters, and loved seeing his 5 grandchildren and cherished their photos and gifts.
Joe was a hard-working and detail-oriented person. Since childhood, he sank his teeth into meaningful work, building strong relationships with clients and coworkers. Laughing, joking, and good-natured teasing were an important part of his relationships. He happily served his church for many years as a ward and stake financial clerk and was always kind, affable, and generous with friends and neighbors. He found joy in helping people and making sure they were taken care of.
Joe loved cooking his specialties from scratch: lasagna, marinara sauce, vegetable beef soup, ribs, veal parmesan, and more. He loved Dickens and Shakespeare as well as Hallmark movies, Star Trek, Star Wars, anything John Wayne, and singing along to oldies in the car. He had a special affinity for M&Ms and Famous Amos cookies.
The memorial service for Joe will be this Saturday, 2/22, at 11:00 am. All are invited to stay for lunch afterwards to visit and share memories. The service will be at the Frontenac Latter-day Saint chapel located at 10445 Clayton Rd., Frontenac, MO 63131. If you’re unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed via Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Joe was a gentle man, never had a negative word for anyone, was very efficient and honest in his business dealings, and was very VERY proud of his girls and grandchildren. You could always count on his word. His mind was sharp – always knew what was going on around him and elsewhere!
Joe had a deep testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was well-respected by everyone who knew him, and he was a humble soul who was always a pleasure to be with.
He was a craftsman in his trade. He seemed to enjoy being proficient in his knowledge of diamonds, gold, and jewelry. Joe did some work for me over the years. He never took on a job without making sure you understood exactly what he would be doing and why. He never disappointed! His professionalism and expertise were beyond reproach.
The world needs more people like Joe Coone who continually stood for the right and was a beacon of light to those who encountered him. He will be missed by many in so many different ways.
Joe was my visiting teacher for about 7 years after I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2010. He came without fail monthly during this 7-year period, along with 2 other brothers. As a single parent with 3 little girls, these visits were instrumental in me feeling the love of my Savior. His watchful care and concern for my family is what true discipleship is. My daughters and I loved him and appreciate all we learned from him over these years. He was a true example of Christlike love, and an example of how the gospel can bless other’s lives, when we strive to love and serve others. We are grateful to have known him. You have my sincere condolences for your loss, in sympathy and love.
