Joyce Dachroeden

Joyce Ida (Faes) Dachroeden (July 16th, 1928 — September 15th, 2019)

Joyce was the second born daughter of George Faes and Ermelinde (Voelkerding)
Faes and spent much of her youth in Hermann, Missouri, where she graduated
from Hermann High School in 1945. She then moved to St Louis for work,
attending Miss Hickey’s Business School where she obtained the skills needed to
become a secretary at McDonnell Aircraft.

She met the love of her life, Charles (Dachroeden III), at his grandmother’s house
where she rented a room while in school. Charles took a strong liking to the
blond, independent young lady, going so far as to go to church just to impress her.
That, and the fact he was steadily employed at a job with a future as an Engineer
at McDonnell resulted in her agreeing to date him, and in the end saying “Yes” to
their getting married on April 7th, 1951.

Joyce worked until she became pregnant, then stayed home to raise her children,
Charles Allen, Daryl Robert, and Dana James. Joyce was a great homemaker and
cook and developed many ways to ensure leftovers were eaten and no food went
to waste . She was a founding and active member of Our Lady of Fatima parish
in Florissant Missouri and remained a devout Catholic all of her life. She worked
on many a fundraiser and is still remembered for making gingerbread houses and
villages which were sold for the benefit of the parish, eventually receiving her “15
minutes of fame” along with several close friends through a very nice news piece

in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. When her husband Charles retired from McDonnell
Douglas, she became a successful travel agent and planned vacations for many
friends and family members, working diligently so all went smoothly. As an agent,
she and Charles travelled the world, many times at no charge with hotels and
cruise-lines courting her, since a good review meant she’d be sending tourists
their way. She and Charles eventually ‘retiredʼ from traveling to spend time with
family and her grandchildren. She always made sure every birthday was
celebrated, and everyone received a card.

Joyce is remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and as a
good friend to many. She cared for everyone she knew in a way that made one
feel like family, and she treated family even better.
Joyce lost her beloved Charles after 68 years of marriage in June 2019. She will be
interred alongside him at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. She was loved by
all, and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Mass: 10am / Oct 4, 2019 / St Rose Philippine Duchesne Catholic Church
in Florissant MO.
