In Loving Memory of Karen Butler Mason

December 31, 1972 – July 18, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Butler Mason, who was Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church; and was a woman whose strength, compassion, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Karen is now reunited with the love of her life, James Edward “Eddie” Mason, who preceded her in death. While their time apart felt far too long, there is comfort in knowing they are together once again.

She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply: her parents, Kathy Butler and Jimmy Butler; her sister, Michele (Butler) Lain, and brother-in-law, Bill Lain; her three beloved nephews, Devin Lain, Gavin Lain, and Aiden Lain, who were truly the light of her life. They were her heart, and she loved them with a fierce, unconditional love. To them, she wasn’t simply an aunt—she was a constant source of love, laughter, encouragement, wisdom, and fierce protection. Their bond was extraordinary, and the love they shared will remain forever in their hearts.

Karen also leaves behind her lifelong best friend and chosen sister, Kelly Coffey Bethel, affectionately known as her “sister from another mister.” Their friendship began in kindergarten and grew into a bond that lasted a lifetime. Through every season of life, Kelly stood beside Karen with unwavering love, loyalty, and devotion. They were family in every way that truly matters, and Karen treasured their friendship beyond words.

She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family, whose lives she enriched beyond measure, and by a wide circle of cherished friends whose lives were forever touched by her kindness, loyalty, generous spirit, and unwavering love.

Karen’s family also included her cherished dogs, Zoey and Paisley, who were never “just pets.” They were her children, adored beyond measure, with a closet full of clothes and a home filled with the kind of unconditional love only she could give.

Karen dedicated her life to serving others as a highly respected paramedic. Throughout her distinguished career, she earned countless awards and commendations recognizing her courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Yet the greatest measure of her legacy cannot be found in medals or accolades—it lives in the countless lives she touched through acts of kindness, compassion, and selfless service.

Whether responding to a stranger’s darkest hour or standing beside those she loved, Karen answered every call with courage, compassion, and a servant’s heart.

She was the friend everyone hoped to have—fiercely loyal, dependable, and always willing to stand beside those she loved, no matter the circumstances. Karen never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether wearing a paramedic’s uniform, comforting a friend, or simply showing up when it mattered most, she gave of herself freely and wholeheartedly.

Karen possessed a fiery spirit and an unbreakable soul. Proud of her Irish heritage, she embodied the resilience, wit, and fierce loyalty that are hallmarks of her family’s roots. She faced life with determination, strength, and authenticity. She loved deeply, protected fiercely, and lived with a passion that could never be ignored. Her laughter was unforgettable, her heart was generous, and her love for those closest to her knew no limits.

Karen’s life reminds us that true greatness is measured not by what we accumulate, but by the lives we touch, the love we give, and the difference we make in the world.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy lives on in every life she saved, every heart she comforted, every friend she cherished, and every family member who was blessed to be loved by her.

She came into this world to serve others, loved with her whole heart, and leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, unwavering loyalty, and selfless service that will live on for generations.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in loving memory of Karen Butler Mason, whose deep love for animals reflected her kind and compassionate spirit. Karen’s beloved dogs, Zoey and Paisley, were the joy of her life, and honoring her memory by helping animals in need is a tribute she would have deeply appreciated.

The sirens are silent now, your shift is complete, and you have answered Heaven’s final call. Rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord, reunited with your beloved Eddie. We will carry your love, your strength, and your legacy with us until we meet again.
