Karen Louise McCommas

Karen Louise McCommas, age 69, of Missouri and Connecticut, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023 surrounded by loving family.

She was born in May of 1954, in Middletown, Connecticut to Nancy Haberek who along with her step-father Frank, survives her.  She married the love of her life, Tilden (Mac) McCommas, on May 28, 1977 who preceded her death in 2009.

Karen loved her family selflessly and deeply.  She was the most loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  In her spare time, her hands were rarely still.  She was a talented seamstress, knitter, crochet crafter, and pianist.  She enjoyed cooking and sharing her recipes with family.  Her giving nature extended to her community through her many years of volunteerism with Girl Scouts, adopting families during the holidays, and visiting schools each Arbor Day to teach about the importance of trees and the need to take care of our environment.  Karen possessed a strong work ethic, devoting over 35 years of service to Frito Lay where she received many awards until her retirement in 2021. Karen’s final gift was as an organ and tissue donor through Mid America Transplant.

Karen is survived by her children Shelley (Kevin) Silvia, Jennifer (Richard) LeDuc, John (Julio) McCommas, sister Cynthia Garrison, brother Alan (Denise) Plue, grandchildren Sophia, Nickolas, Zachary, and Madeline, several nieces, nephews, and her faithful dog Bailey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Karen may be made to Day Kimball Homecare in Connecticut, Barnes-Jewish Hospice in St. Peter’s, Missouri,  or you may plant a tree in Karen’s memory at https://shop.arborday.org/trees-in-memory.  A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be planned at a later date.
