Kathleen Albert

In Loving Memory of Kathleen Ann Albert

September 4, 1950 – January 21, 2019

On Monday, January 21, 2019 Kathleen Ann Albert, a loving wife, adventurer, sister, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home in Maryland Heights, MO.

Kathy was born on September 4, 1950 to Frank H. McDonald and Beryl Callen McDonald in Waterloo, NY. She was the second child of five siblings: Callen McDonald, Mark McDonald, Frank McDonald, and Johanna Aziere.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Joseph McDonald and nephew Jacob McDonald. She is survived by her husband Frank D. Albert (Dave), her ex-mother-in-law turned beloved friend Celia Perry, her son Daniel Y. Prentice, daughter-in-law Dawn Prentice, and stepchildren Benjamin Albert, Bridget Holley, and Adrienne Hargrove. Her grandchildren include Melaina Prentice (11), Celia Prentice (4), Joey Mollere (29), James Mollere (25), Jesse Mollere (20), Benjamin Albert Jr. (16), Nathan Holley (13), Anthony Aguilar (22) and Jonah Hargrove (7).

Kathy graduated from Waterloo High School in upstate New York in 1968. Never a fan of cold weather, she moved to New Orleans, LA to attend St. Mary’s Dominican College. After graduating in 1972 with a degree in Home Economics Education she joined the Peace Corps and lived in Jamaica until 1974. Her next adventure was with a mission trip to the Pastaza province of Ecuador where she lived until 1980. Upon returning to upstate New York with her 18-month-old son, she quickly realized that living in the tropics had made her even more intolerant to the cold, so she returned to New Orleans, LA. She was an insurance claims adjuster for State Farm who enjoyed Cajun dancing and spending time at the fishing camp on Bayou Segnette outside of New Orleans. She drove a truck so that she and her close-knit group of single friends never had to rely on a man to move something. It was on the Cajun dance floor that she met Dave, who she was happy to share her truck and boat with. In January of 1995 she married Dave and moved to an 80-acre farm outside of Thayer, MO. Kathy and Dave were active members of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Thayer. Kathy finally put her degree to work teaching Family and Consumer Science at Koshkonong High School. Though she thoroughly loved country living, she and Dave moved to Maryland Heights in 2015 to be close to her son and his family.

Kathy started every day with scripture readings and devotional reflection. Though she characterized herself as shy, Kathy would start a conversation with anyone and it was not uncommon for the conversation to end with a hug. Kathy loved talking about her experiences traveling abroad with the Peace Corps and especially remembered her time in Ecuador fondly. True to her nature of giving all of herself to others, her body has been donated to the National Body Donor Program for medical research. Charitable gifts can be made in her honor to the Peace Corps – Ecuador country fund.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 11:00 until 4:00 at John D. McGurk’s Irish Pub located at 1200 Russell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63104.

Kathy is truly a special woman. I’m so blessed to have been able to call her a friend. She extended her motherly care and concern to Cory and me which meant so much; she made me feel like family. I could listen to her stories of her travels and time in Louisiana for hours, and sometimes did. ??
Kathy always had a smile and a positive attitude.
My deepest love and condolences go out to her entire family. Such an amazing lady will be greatly missed!

What a privilege to have known this remarkable adventuresome lady. She was so joyful and optimistic no matter what obstacles she faced. I enjoyed every moment I spent with her and wish we could have had more time together. My prayers and thoughts are with her family.
Her son prepared a beautiful tribute to his Mother. This reflects her beautiful life.
