Kathryn “Kate” Birdsong

Kathryn A. Birdsong, 76

Kate Birdsong passed away on December 17, 2017 at her home in St. Peters, Missouri after a long struggle with cancer.

Kate was born on August 19, 1941, in Rolla, Missouri, daughter of Albert Light and Betty Jung (Williams). She was raised in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from Riverview High School. In 1959 Kate married the love of her life, Charles (Charlie) Birdsong. They resided in Florissant, Missouri, where they raised their three daughters. Kate worked for Schnuck’s Markets, Meat Cutters Local 688, for 15 years, retiring in 1979. Kate and Charlie then relocated to Ralls County, Missouri, residing in several rural towns over the next 30 years. She enjoyed farming and gardening, business ownership, volunteering at church, and being a homemaker. Kate was happiest with family and friends; they were her passion and delight. She made friends wherever she went and they all loved her.

Kate is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charlie Birdsong, her sister, Carol Wiegand, brother, Michael Light, and three daughters, Audrey (Allen) Leiber, Diana (Denny) Brockman, and Denise (Bob) Biribin, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, 907 Jungermann Rd., St. Peters, MO 63376, on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m.

Donations may be made in Kate’s memory to the Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63110.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. We use to camp, fish, and spend time cooking and visiting with Charlie and Kate. She fought a hard battle, one she did not lose, but one she was able to gain her wings. Rest In Heaven my sweet friend. You will be missed by many.
