Larry D. Engle
Larry D. Engle, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home with his loved ones by his side on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the age of 69. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for several years.
Larry was born in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on December 22, 1946 to Freeman and Elsie Engle. Later in life he served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. where he was on active duty during the Vietnam Era from January 1964 to January 1970. He obtained the rank of Corporal by the time of his honorable discharge.
Larry worked as a general manager at UHaul in St. Louis alongside his wife and teammate “Cathy” for 18 years. In his spare time, Larry was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing whenever time permitted.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, “Cathy” Mary Catherine Engle (nee Becker); his beloved children, Lawrence Engle, Michelle (Kristin) Engle and Angela (William) Engle-Schultz; his grandkids, Julia Engle, Darby Cambron, Logan Cambron, Ella Brunstrom, Dustin Hoffmann, Lily Hoffmann, Jacob Schultz, Jaxon Engle, Akiya Engle and Ashland Engle; one great granddaughter, Meara Wyman; his dear mother, Elsie Cohen; his siblings, Darrell (Sharon) Engle, Connie (Larry) Patterson and step-brother, Kenneth (Marilee) Cohen; nieces and nephews, Debra and Becca Engle, Joseph and Cynthia Thien; great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
Services for Larry will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016. Everybody who wishes to attend should meet at Larry’s home at 9:00 a.m. where the family will begin a procession (escorted by his buddies at AmVets) to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for a service with military honors to be held at 10:30 am. Immediately following the service, there will be a memorial Celebration of Larry’s Life at Cotter’s Lounge, 4610 S. Kingshighway Blvd., St. Louis MO 63109.
