Lee Oaty Fitzmaurice

Lee departed his loving family on August 30, 2024, shortly before his 95th birthday, and was active almost to the end.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Nona, and his dear sister, LaVerne. He is survived by his daughter, Diana (Gene) LeBeau, his son, Rich (Karie) Fitzmaurice, their grandchildren, Karis (Mark) Hufton and Kohl (Meaghan) Fitzmaurice and great-grandchildren, TL, Charley, Zoe and Rylie.

He was a loving and dedicated husband, a caring, devoted and proud father and a supportive and consistent grand- and great-grandfather. We believe he carried and expressed the Fragrance of Jesus everywhere he went.

He was a contractor most of his career and the kind of carpenter who could build almost anything. He was great at problem solving with his intelligent and creative solutions to construction challenges. He is described by family and friends as someone special, who always liked to be on the go, ready for action, and carried a positive, Can-Do attitude that was infectious.

He was very athletic in his younger years and a self-described champion at horseshoes as well as a connoisseur of biscuits & gravy. He enjoyed fishing, growing tomatoes, playing games and trains with the kids, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and coffee dates with his buddies, telling his life stories up until the very end.

He was a huge giver, faithful to his word, and a best friend to many. He had a sharp mind and a great memory full of hard-to-believe stories and close calls, but he just loved and cared for everyone; many people have described him as “The Best.” That love continues to live on through his many adoring friends and family.

A memorial service will be held on September 30, 2024 at 11:00am. Doors open at 10am. Luncheon immediately following the memorial service in the Church Hall. West County Assembly of God Church 13431 North Outer 40 Road Town & Country, MO 63017.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.

My heart goes out to the entire family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Lee was a wonderful person with a beautiful soul. His love for people showed in his actions every day. Lee always had a smile on his face whenever I saw him. He showed such great compassion for his sister Laverne visiting her as often as possible and he also went to see so many other people at nursing homes and hospitals. I will miss Lee dearly.

Lee was such a wonderful man, curious about everything and embracing the wonder that is life. He will leave a hole in the family, but his memory will always live in his devoted family and his many friends.

I dearly loved Lee and his friendliness to all those around him. Lee was friends with my sister, Anna at their nursing home. Anna came there soon after Lee and was comforted to meet Nona and Lee. Our children were good friends together as they went to the same church. We’ll miss you “Fitzmaurice”. Everyone knew Lee craved Hot Sauce on everything he ate. He was a character and well loved by all.

I met Lee through his son Rich, who did multiple projects on my business office and home over more than 30 years. Lee would often come with Rich to my home. The spirit and energy he brought with him was contagious. I loved just talking to him and listening to whatever he enjoying talking about. He gave me fishing lures for my son Barkley, who still uses them to this day. I am glad he moved closer to my wife and I these last several years, which gave us the opportunity to visit him on occasion. I will miss, but always remember, his smile and happiness that he graciously shared with us.
