Leon C. Schaffner “Lee”

Age 91, died January 16th, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Yvonne Schaffner for 62 years; loving father of Mary Lee (Bill) Brown; dearest brother-in-law of Charles (Lea) Thys of Belgium; brother of the late William and Charles Schaffner: our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and good friend to many.

Lee was a WWII veteran and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He remained in the Army Reserves and retired with the rank of CWO3. He retired from the U.S. Army Communication Command Agency in 1981. Lee was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He and Yvonne traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe with friends and relatives. He was a long-time volunteer at the St. Peters Rec Plex and a former member of the Parks Board. He was also a councilman in Ferguson in the 1960s and active there in civic affairs. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Services: Like his wife before him, Lee donated his body to St. Louis University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be held at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 2705 Zumbehl Roadin St. Charles, MO on Saturday, February 2nd at 10:00am, with a luncheon following in the church hall. Visitation at the church 9:00am until time of service. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 77 Westport Plaza, Suite 101, St. Louis, MO 63146.
