Leonard Schutz

Leonard (Lenny) Charles Schutz, 74, of Perryville. MO, died on January 19, 2024.

Lenny was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 9, 1949 and he graduated from Normandy High School in 1967.

Lenny was married to Mary Lou (Blake) (Erickson) Schutz on October 16, 2004 they were married 19 years.  Lenny was formally married to Carole (Kolasch) Schutz, the Mother of his Children.  

Lenny was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph Nicholas and Clara Catherine (Sonntag) Schutz and his brother Steve Schutz.

Lenny is survived by his two children, Clayton Schutz, Alison (Peter) Schutz Wen, his step-children Kevin (Kelli) Erickson, Marc Erickson and Michael (Laura) Erickson.  His grandchildren Ryan Hale, Jack and Robbie Erickson, Evan, Andrew and Nicholas Erickson, Adrian Wen, with grandchild number 8 on the way.   Lenny is also survived by his siblings, Lorraine (Tom) Christiansen, Glen (Laurie) Schutz, Sue (David) Bumbernick and Mary Kalkbrenner.  Our Dear Uncle, Great-Uncle, Cousin and Friend.

Lenny served in the Army from September 1969 to July 1971  He served in the Vietnam War from July 1970 to July 1971.  He was very proud to be an American Veteran and the American Flag was always flying at his home.  

Lenny’s career was in the Supermarket industry.  He started while in high school working for National Super Markets as a bagger.  He worked his way up to stocking, set up crew, Assistant Manager and then the Construction Maintenance Department.  He eventually became Vice President of Construction and Maintenance.  He held that position until National Super Markets, Inc. was sold to Schnuck Markets in 1986.  He then became of Project Manager for Supervalu building and remodeling Shop ‘n Save and Save A Lot stores.  He retired in April of 2013.  

Lenny passion was gardening, he loved working outdoors and his yard reflected the green thumb he had with his beautiful flowers and grass.  He loved boating at Lake Perry, trips to Fort Myers Beach, Florida and Valentin Imperial Maya Resort in Cancan, Mexico.  

Thank You to all our Neighbors at Lake Perry for all of their support and help during Lenny’s illness.  We could not have gotten through this without your help.  A special thank you to Lenny’s Friend Tom Courtney who came to see him every day.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date as our Family waits for our next Grandchild to be born.
