Lovelle Lee Skaggs Berner

After a brief battle with Cancer, Lovelle Skaggs Berner, 57, died early Sunday morning, December 28, 2014. In hospice care for six months prior to her death, she traveled to St. Louis, MO where she passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home with family at her side and in her heart.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jenniffer Adkins, Shauna Hodges and Jessica Hodges; three granddaughters, Mary Adkins, Aiko Gulley and Kuriston Hodges; sister, Martha Payne and brothers, Joe and Lowell Skaggs.

Lovelle was preceded in death by her father, Claudie Skaggs in 1994; mother, Ruth Norman Skaggs in 2013 and her brother, Charles Skaggs in 2008.

Born in Gainesville, Texas, she called many Texas cities home including Houston, Alvin, Livingston, Sulphur Springs and Pickton.

In her teens she lived briefly in Denver, Colorado, falling in love with its mountains, streams and wide open spaces. At her wish, her family will travel there to spread her ashes in the Spring.

She had a passion to help others which lead her back to college in 2009 to pursue a degree in psychology. Her goal was to become a substance abuse counselor offering help and insight to those on the road to recovery. It’s no surprise her favorite quote was from B.B. King “The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”

Lovelle was free-spirited, adventurous and willing to try new things. She never met a roller coaster too big to conquer. She was creative and artistic, enjoying drawing, embroidery and macrame?. Her spirit and memory lives on in those she’s touched.

The family wishes to recognize and thank VITAS Health Care. Mom’s final wishes were “I want my last days to be at home with my family.” With your guidance and support we were able to honor those wishes. On behalf of Lovelle, we thank you.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at The Savannah located at 246 County Road 4778 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Chaplain Terri Wilson will be officiating. Online condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.stlouiscremation.com.
