“Manny” Brunsch

Manfred Willy Herbert Brunsch, 70, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Jefferson Barracks Division in St. Louis, MO. He was born on January 11, 1942 in Quolsdorf, Germany to Willy and Elfrieda Brunsch.

Manfred, his parents and five siblings moved from Germany to the United States in 1953. Manfred grew up in Soap Lake, Washington. He graduated from Soap Lake High School in 1960. After high school he served in the Army and was stationed at USAG Heidelberg in Heidelberg, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and returned to the states where he began working for International Mill Service (IMS) in Granite City, Illinois. He worked in various management roles at IMS for the next 30 years.

Manfred married Sharon Spraul in May 1970 in St. Louis, Missouri and had two children. They were married for 24 years. Manfred was a member of the VFW Post 5691 and the American Legion LEIGHTON EVATT POST 365. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including boating, cross bow hunting and entering his 1986 Camaro IROC-Z in car shows. He was an avid deer and pheasant hunter as well.

Manfred is survived by his former wife, Sharon Brunsch of St. Louis, Missouri; his daughter, Tonya Hubbartt of St. Charles, Illinois and son, Todd Brunsch of St. Louis, Missouri, brothers, Reinhard Brunsch of Lacey, Washington and Wolfgang Brunsch of La Center, Washington, sisters, Sigrid McMaster of American Falls, Idaho, Waltraud Nieminen of Sutherlin, Oregon and Ingrid Maddox of Sarasota, Florida, and grandchildren Gabriel (6) and Nina (4) Hubbartt of St. Charles, Illinois.

Manfred was preceded in death by his parents, Willy and Elfrieda Brunsch.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1300 Beltline Road, Collinsville, IL. The visitation will take place from 4:30-5:30pm with the memorial service at 5:30pm. A reception dinner will be held at 7pm at the VFW Post 5691 located at 1234 Vandalia St., Collinsville, IL.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to the American Cancer Society at #5 Schiber Court, Maryville, IL 62062.

    I am from Quolsdorf,but left for Atlantic CITY IN 1956, TO BE WITH MY BROTHER Harry Girth. My brother Manfred and Klaus lived in Quolsdorf,my Mother Johanna was the nurse in Hanichen and my father August was a painter there. Manfred lives in Rietschen.
