Marcia Elizabeth Gwaltney

It is always difficult to say goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must bid farewell to their beloved Marcia Elizabeth Gwaltney of St. Peters, MO, who passed away at the age of 80 on October 23, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Marcia dedicated 43 years of her life to Hager Hinge, where she served as an exceptionally caring and devoted customer service representative. Her colleagues quickly became lifelong friends, and Marcia was the adhesive that bound the office together. She regularly orchestrated luncheons, group gatherings, and company softball games.

Marcia was a member of Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in St. Charles, Missouri, where she stayed true to her faith in God.

Marcia possessed many redeeming characteristics and qualities, but her ability to love any and all stood above the rest. Her gift was simply knowing how to make everyone feel special.

Marcia had a unique love and kindness for animals. Whether her own pets or others, she always went out of her way to show dogs, cats, and any other four-legged friends compassion.

This same love extended to her family life. As a devoted mother to two daughters, Marcia imparted her values and characteristics, ensuring they had the lives she believed they deserved. She was their mother first and their best friend second, always embracing the role of one of the girls.

In her role as a grandmother to four, Marcia radiated love and adoration. She was ever-present at baseball and softball games, often inviting her grandchildren for dinner and offering encouragement through regular and often impromptu phone calls. Her time spent with her grandchildren was always a treasured experience for both her and them.

Marcia had an open heart, welcoming everyone into her home and treating them like family. No one made their home feel like your home quite like Marcia did. The life of the party, Marcia hosted countless Fourth of July, Memorial, and Labor Day get-togethers in her backyard and her pool. Her guests always left with happy memories and full stomachs.

Marcia cherished life and all those who shared it with her from her first day to her last.

Marcia’s passing was preceded by her loving parents, James Clarence Gwaltney and Anna Margaret Gwaltney (nee Quick), her beloved sister Dolores Ann Kelley, cherished brothers Denis Clarence Gwaltney, William Henry Gwaltney, and James Augustine Gwaltney, as well as beloved sister-in-law Fern Marie Gwaltney and beloved brother-in-law William Kelley.

She leaves behind a grieving family, including her beloved daughters, Susan Marie Gwaltney and Denise (Douglas) Fetsch, and her beloved grandchildren, Bryce John Marlin, Hannah Elizabeth Fetsch, Emily Virginia (Robbie) Corcoran, and Olivia Faith Fetsch. Her cherished life partner, Jerry Butler, beloved sister-in-law Connie Gwaltney, and numerous adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will also dearly miss her.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:30 am and Holy Mass at 11:30 am at Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church, 4112 McClay Rd, Saint Charles, MO 63304.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center, 4850 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376, or Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church, 4112 McClay Road, St. Charles, MO 63304.

I met Marcia at Hager Hinge and she was one of the kindest people ever. I was there 1985-1989 and we reconnected thru Facebook a couple of years ago. Marcia was the same beautiful, kind, funny friend I remembered. Marcia loved her two girls Susan and Denise and she would speak of them often. Marcia touched my heart and soul. This is the kind of person was all of us smiled a little more because we knew her. ♥
