Margaret Mary Klaverkamp, nee Wielt, died peacefully in her home on August 27, 2015, in the company of her family. “Maggie” Klaverkamp was born on December 13, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, the only child of the late William F. and Florence Nugent Wielt, spent her teenage years in Phoenix, and moved to St. Louis, where she met and married Francis J. “Frank” Klaverkamp, Jr. As they raised a family of six, she worked as a paralegal, was an active volunteer, returned to school to earn her RN, and provided compassionate care for more than 35 years as a nurse, making friends and mentoring colleagues at Incarnate Word and Alexian Brothers emergency rooms, 6ICU at St. Louis University Hospital, Missouri Poison Control and Southeast Texas Poison Center. She is loved by their children, Lizanne Young (Eric) of Dupo, Ill., Bill Klaverkamp (the late Gina Brown) of Eugene, Ore., Chris Klaverkamp (Jennifer) of Frontenac, Mo., MaryJo Zerr (Randell) of Houston, Kate Malorin (Mike) of St. Louis, and Jim Klaverkamp (Jamie Wallace) of St. Louis. She doted on her grandsons Mark Young, Thomas Young, Xander Zerr, Bryson Zerr, August Klaverkamp, William Klaverkamp, and Gregory Malorin, and beloved step-grandchildren Jesse Mulherin and Eva Torsti. Relatives and countless friends remember Maggie’s laser wit, faultless advice, adventurous recipes, and obsession with fabric (as befits a member of the American Sewing Guild), along with her generous hospitality. Her life will be celebrated at a memorial Mass on Saturday, September 5, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 411 Palmer Rd., Columbia, Ill., officiated by Fr. Carl E. Scherrer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Building/Landscaping Fund, or to a charity of choice.
