Maribeth “Sam” Sizemore
1945-2019
Maribeth “Sam” Sizemore passed away, surrounded by her loving family, at Evelyn’s House on April 18, 2019 at the age of 73. Sam was the daughter of the late Bert and Dorothy Gates and is survived by her husband Ted Sizemore, to whom she was married for nearly 41 amazing and fun filled years, her son Tony Sizemore and his wife Tricia, her daughter Nicole Martin and her husband Greg, and her four grandchildren Chris, Ben, Cole and Luke. Her furry friend, Bogey, brought her endless companionship and joy.
Sam was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri attending both Epiphany of Our Lord School and St. Elizabeth High School, after which she embarked on a 30+ year career as a flight attendant with Ozark Airlines, TWA and ultimately retired with American Airlines in 2000. She traveled the world and was passionate about exploring new places, embarking on adventures and making friends along the way.
Sam’s family meant the world to her and she to them. She was a beloved sister to Nancy Adams and her husband Larry, Robert Gates and his wife Linda, Bert Gates, Deborah Julian, Tom Gates and his wife Pat, and Sheila Gates. She was adored by her brother-in-law Pat Sizemore (deceased) and his wife Lynn and her sister-in-law Robin Willcock and her husband Tom. She was the “cool and fun” aunt to seventeen nieces and nephews; Marnie Becker, Mickey Adams, Mark Adams, John Gates, Gemma Gates, Meaghan Gates (deceased), Clare Gates, Brendan Gates, Kevin Gates, Gabrielle Julian, Premraj (Torey) Julian, Barrett Towey, Brigid Towey, Erin Towey, Joseph Sizemore, Nicholas Sizemore, and April Henderson – all of who spent endless hours of fun at the “Conway House.” Sam also had thirteen great nieces and nephews and a large extended family who she loved immeasurably.
Sam lived a remarkable life filled with endless love, laughter, cooking and adventure. She was the ultimate entertainer and the life of any party. Her vibrant spirit, infectious laugh and gorgeous smile made others happy just being near her. She was kind and generous, always willing to lend a hand and help others without question. She was a treasured friend to so many in St. Louis, Palm Springs and around the world – too many to name but you know who you are. Sam will be deeply missed but is now reunited with cherished family and friends she has not seen in a very long time.
In keeping with Sam’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. An event celebrating Sam and her extraordinary life will be planned for a future date. Should friends desire, memorial contributions honoring Sam may be directed to Evelyn’s House – www.bjchospice.org/Evenlys-House

I met Sam and Ted at my brother Jim’s wedding. It was a great time and she was such a genuine person. Peace to all her family, hoping your memories will bring you comfort in this sad time.
My deepest condolences to all of Sams family.I will love and miss her forever. We will always remember the fun we shared for almost 50 years.
The year was 1989, June. I had just returned to work after a long strike and surgery. Sam held the same line as I that month flying out of Washington, DC. It was the first time I had met her and the last time I saw her, yet she remained indelible i my memory. Warm, compassionate, and such fun. She mad my last days flying a joy and created a memory for all time. May she rest in peace with God’s hands wrapped around her immortal soul for all time.
Ted I am so sorry to hear of Sam’s passing I loved her and I know you did too. I know you must miss her. My prayers are with you. Good bye Sam I will be sad without your humor, smile and fun times together here in Palm Springs. But now you will be watching over us.
I am so saddened to hear about dear Sam joining lots of angels up above. She was wonderful to fly with and always sweet and kind. My condolences to her family and friends, her name will always bring a smile to my face.
