Marjorie Benoist

Marjorie Opal Benoist (Shaw), 89, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2017 at The Westchester House in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was born in Sullivan, Indiana on April 14, 1927 to loving parents George and Cora Shaw. She is survived by her children Michael Visconti and Carol McMillan (Gregory), and her sister Esthel Staas, grandchildren Michael Visconti, Jr. and Nancy Visconti-Lopez, and many nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kenneth Shaw, Hubert Shaw, Ruth Bradford, Irene Ward, Mabel Black, Eddie Shaw and Melvina Cowgill.

At age 2, her family moved to northeast Arkansas. Marjorie and her siblings worked in the cotton fields to help support the family. They would pray for rain so they could have the day off because you could not pick wet cotton. At age 14 Marjorie and Esthel and their mom moved to St. Louis. Her sister Mabel found them a house at Creve Coeur Lake. She retired in 1996 from Henry VIII Hotel in Bridgeton. In 2004, her daughter and husband moved to Austin, Texas and bought her a house next door so they could be together almost every day. Marjorie enjoyed reading, sitting outdoors, flowers and her dog Maggie Mae. She had a great sense of humor.

Memorial service will be held on February 11, 2017 at 1pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 327 Woods Mill Rd., Manchester, MO 63011.

We will cherish our memories of her in our hearts.
