Age: 73

Mark Edward Munie of Shrewsbury, Missouri passed away August 24, 2023, at Mercy Hospital St Louis with family near.

He was preceded in death by parents Delmer (Jack) and Patricia (Marshall) Munie, sister Marylou McMahon and brother Michael, Brothers-in-law Bruce Brennan and Patrick Brennan.

Mark E. Munie is survived by his Loving wife, Kathy (Brennan) Munie, Sister: Missy Fish, Daughter: Shannon Ellsworth Rogers (Wes), Son: Ryan (Sarah) Munie, Grandchildren: Trevor (Brooke) Britton, Alec Britton, Guinevere Ellsworth, Mark Ellsworth, Ella Munie, Grant Munie, Persephone DeZellar, Shae Rogers, Great-Grandson: Terren Britton, Nieces: Cory McMahon, Kelly Shockley, Megan Brennan and Gina Whaley. Nephew: Jesse Brennan. Brother-in-laws Jim (Renate`) Brennan and Terry Brennan.

He was my Heart, my Best Friend. I know I have been blessed. Mark cherished his family above all else.  Our daughter, Shannon and son, Ryan, grew up knowing their father loved, and valued them. As we grew in numbers, Family gatherings were a time of laughter and joy.

Mark loved all sports but Hockey was his passion. He carried his ideals of dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship through life.

It’s hard to convey the kinship that grows with teammates. A respect that comes from Forging towards a common goal, trusting another’s commitment, covering each other’s weaknesses, the acceptance of defeat, the heady elixir of success. Mark shared his love of sport freely with his teammates, those he coached and even those he met. He was a man of his word. If he offered, promised or said something, you could count on it.

He worked tirelessly towards the goal of a new Recreation Complex for the City of Webster Groves. When I complained that we lived in neighboring Shrewsbury, he’d patiently explain WG had the need and the space. It would benefit everyone. As president of the Webster Groves Youth Hockey program, he persuaded the board to provide the money for the feasibility study but there were many key people in the movement for the new center. The young hockey players roller-bladed door to door handing out flyers and encouraging residents to vote for the needed bond issue. The bond passed and the community built a new ice rink, swimming pool, workout & meeting rooms.

Mark was an excellent HVAC engineer specializing in steam and hydronic boiler systems and contributed to many of the ice rinks around our area including Enterprise Center. He enjoyed many projects based out of Ft Leonard Wood where he worked with the Corps of Engineers.

Mass at St Michael the Archangel in Shrewsbury Friday, September 15th 6:30pm.

Immediately following the mass, is a Celebration of Life at the Webster Groves Recreation Complex. In lieu of flowers, donation to The Mark Munie Memorial Foundation is appreciated. This will perpetuate Mark’s legacy benefiting student/youth hockey athletes.
