Mary Ann (Wideman) Van Doren
Mary Ann (Wideman) Van Doren, 82, of Affton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.
Born Sept. 26, 1938, to Joseph C. Wideman and Georgia A. (Eads) Wideman, Mary Ann was raised in Dogtown, Missouri. She attended St. James the Greater for her elementary education and graduated from Southwest High School in 1956. Married twice, she raised eight children, worked various jobs, and quietly persevered through life’s ups and downs. She spent many years working as a bookkeeper for Boise Cascade and then the family business. Re-entering the workforce later in life, she worked as a shift manager at U.S. Tool Grinding in Desloge, Missouri, before retiring in 2006 at the age of 68. Mary Ann loved to read, garden, and shop for antique treasures with her husband. She collected Depression glass and China tea cups, using her favorites for her morning tea. She also loved traveling with her daughters, watching NFL football with her sons, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Mary Ann was foremost devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary S. Van Doren Sr.; four children: Kim Nappier-Marshall (Greg); Terri Nappier (Claire); Matthew Van Doren; and Danielle Joeckel (Dave); eight grandchildren: Amanda Vaccaro (Joseph); Anthony Kreutzman (Megan); Justin Van Doren; Mallory Van Doren; Amelia Joeckel; Ryan Joeckel; Aubrey Joeckel; and Gwendolyn Joeckel; and five great-grandchildren: Adam Mancuso; Sophia Vaccaro; Joseph Vaccaro IV; Ellie Kreutzman; and Gus Kreutzman. She was a beloved stepmother, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her son Mark Nappier (2012); her parents; and siblings Wilbur, Howard, and Robert Wideman, and Eleanor (Wideman) Samples.
Mary Ann’s family truly appreciates all the wonderful care she was given by her Mercy Hospice team and the love and support extended by family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
