Mary Judith Stone

Loving Memory of Mary Judith Stone

February 13, 1936 – July 14, 2024

Jude Stone, 88, of Ellisville, MO,  passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024. Jude was born in Elkins, WV to Cliff and Gertrude Stone.  Born in the Great Depression to parents working with the Civilian Conservation Corp, she moved frequently during her childhood. Reading, exploring the forests and mountains throughout Appalachia, and her deep desire to learn instilled a fierce independence and level of curiosity that characterized her life until her death.  She received her Bachelor degree in Chemistry in 1959 as a member of the first graduating class of Wheeling College.  After graduating, Jude entered the workforce, was married to Pete Gemski in 1963 until their divorce in 1986, and had two children, Margaret and Thaddeus.  Settling in the Washington D.C. region for much of the next 35 years, Jude worked as a research scientist primarily at the Walter Read Army Institute of Research, for Waters Corporation, and the Millipore Corporation. Upon retirement, Jude resided in Fort Ashby, WV, Colorado Springs, CO, and Ellisville, MO.  She continued her lifelong loves of reading, baking, exploring, and entertaining. Jude is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Gertrude, her brothers Jack, Jim, Frank and Tommy.  She is survived by her children, Margaret Gemski and Thaddeus Gemski (Sarah Scott) and three grandchildren, Jenna, Spencer, and Jackson.

May she rest peacefully and in power.

Jude was the most loving, and positive influence in my life and the best Godmother.
Her beautiful spirit and fierce determination guided her and she taught others to be their best and to conquer all fears.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. My deepest sympathies and love.

Jude was my dear friend and scrabble partner. I know you are in that great Laboratory in the sky, in charge and happy. You will never be forgotten and I miss you everyday.

We loved Jude so much in our family. First through my parents and then with my husband and our boys. I also had the benefit of having Jude as a classroom volunteer, although I will say that I had to shush her more than the children sometimes.

We miss her so much. – Kathy, Randy, Gabe, and Levi Wiafe.
